Fronds full of frills, Phlebodium Davana is the flashy fern of the family. Powdery green hues awash with blues, Davana razzle-dazzles in all directions on crimped and crinkled foliage. This fern feels fuller and more robust than others and is happy just hanging out at home.
Happy when hot and humid! This fern prefers a wet, warm and bright environment to thrive, such as the bathroom or kitchen.
Twist and turn! Remembering to rotate this fern occasionally will help to create a full, even growth.
Shade-seeker! Direct sunlight will scorch the leaves and dark corners will stunt growth. Filtered light is right, so try putting near a north or west-facing window.
Davana prefers partial shade but will enjoy some brighter indirect lighting conditions. Keep away from complete shade and direct light sources as this will burn and dry out the leaves.
Keep the soil moist at all times, watering when the surface becomes slightly dry. Do not allow to stand in water. Water from the sides rather directly onto the leaves.
This Phlebodium prefers normal household temperatures: 16-24°C, but can cope with short periods down to 10°C. Avoid cold draughts.
These ferns prefer higher humidity levels where possible. Mist occasionally for best results. Ideal for kitchens and bathrooms.
Liquid fertiliser can be applied occasionally during the growing season. Take care not to over-feed, they don't need a lot.
Phlebodium Davana is a slow-growing plant which usually reaches an ultimate height of 33cm.
Please note: each plant is unique so available heights are approximate and the plant you receive may vary by ±10%
The Blue Star Fern is considered non-toxic to humans, cats and dogs. Safe around children and animals.
Phlebodium aureum 'Davana' is native to the Caribbean, as well as Central and South Americas.
